Trussing for Installations

Trussing serves many purposes across many different industries, as its low cost, ease of replacement or expansion and its performance capabilities have made it the perfect choice to solve many structural and architectural problems, especially those related to the hanging and support of sound and lighting systems.

Lighting Rigs

Trussing and lighting are old friends, having been paired up for decades in theatres and professional stage shows the world over as it provides the simplest and most practical solution to the flying of multiple lighting fixtures.

Many large stage shows feature fully electric winch operated truss circles or rectangular truss lighting rigs that are raised and lowered throughout a performance both for artistic effect and to aid in easy set changes, and also for mid performance repair and fixture replacement should it be required by raising the truss up into the ceiling where it can be attached to the fixed position lighting gantries, something not possible with wall fixtures or set position truss.

Its structural ratings compared to its overall weight make it perfect for chain lifting and winching as it adds very little weight over that of the lighting units attached, and its tubular design offers an infinite amount of support and fixing points for the lifting equipment.

Durability and Longevity

You mention aluminium to people and they often think of something that’s not as strong as say steel or that can be easily dented or damaged like the bodywork of a car.

So for starters, Truss is really really tough stuff. Depending on the required project specifications, this can be either a 2mm or 3mm wall thickness to the tubing sections, both offering enormous strength with minimal weight penalty and giving huge levels of performance in both structural rigidity and deflection under loading.

Architectural Truss

With its not dissimilar attributes to industrial scaffold, truss can be an extremely useful tool in the creation of custom structures and for use in both permanent and semi-permanent building and design situations.

Truss doesn’t always have to be visible. We have supplied bespoke archways and truss tunnel structures for London art galleries that were panelled over and painted to the gallery colour scheme to provide a seamless transition from the established rooms to the temporary exhibits. Used in this way, truss offers the ultimate in temporary display systems, transforming the shape and purpose of a space quickly and in a non destructive manner, giving good loading points for display screens and lighting, and being simple to takedown and relocate once it’s time to move on.

Structural Truss

Fixed structural installations can have varying requirements, and depending on this intended usage we will advise the most suitable system during the initial quotation. One such recent example would be a “ninja warrior” style obstacle course system for a trampoline park, where the truss framework would be half buried into a custom built raised floor which forms a sponge filled landing pit.

The trussing was required to support apparatus designed for hanging which would cater for several adults bodyweight at any one time if needed, with the minimum of beam deflection as possible. Our heavier Quad truss system offered the perfect solution, giving more than adequate specifications and durability whilst still remaining cost effective in comparison to say an all timber construction. It also again provided the added versatility of being able to accept simple system expansion at a later date should a change in design be required.
